A Thought That Terrifies Me (A Writing for the Martyrs)

Prior to entering into my thoughts I should preface this writing with a little background. Suffering is not something new in the world nor am I a stranger to mild forms of it. I have had to put my body through tough things and have had deep emotional scars due to the untimely deaths of many people I have worked with or considered friends. With that said, I see my life's sorrows and pains as but miniscule blips on the radar of some of my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, who have endured much for our Lord. Which leads me to this terrifying thought (which I am sure many will be able to relate too, especially in the west). Some of you reading this may be familiar with the Voice of the Martyrs, a ministry started by Dr. Richard Wurmbrand to speak for/ support those who suffer for the faith (if you are not I encourage you to look into this ministry and husband/ wife duo). There are Christians out there (I am aware suffering is not just a Christian thing but is relevant for me and m...

A Short, Personal Discourse of the Problem of Evil

Let’s Talk             Well, here we are, most of the way through 2020, and COVID is still at large. With this pandemic, it has ignited more to look at the problem of evil. People are questioning how a good God could allow the world to be rattled with a virus such as this. To me, these questions seem to be coming from an emotional place rather than an intellectual one. There does not seem to be any contradiction in a good God allowing evil to occur in the world. I think the professional literature is quite strong on this. However, there is always a counter-argument to be made but I am not here to write about this logical problem of evil or something of this sort. Rather my concern is giving my personal experience and my emotional response to this question of evil. Personal experience seems to be a decent approach, since many are coming from this emotional side. My Experience with Evil      ...

The Burden of the Long Wait

Image
Introduction As it were, this will be the first post made here in several months. The title of this particular discourse is both descriptive of this fact and of the thought I have in mind currently. This idea of waiting is not something that is looked on nicely by polite society in our current age. With that said, this seems to be an aspect missing from our modern world, the ability to wait. What does it mean to wait? What good does it do me to wait? I'm not sure but what I do know is that there is value in waiting. (Picture retrieved from  https://fortheking2015.wordpress.com/2016/03/31/waiting-on-god/ ) The Will to Wait Waiting seems to be that thing no one has the will to do. So, having lost this overall positive disposition towards waiting, what has that done to the general psyche of the common man? Well, in short, it has nearly eliminated our ability to cope with drastically boring periods in life or those periods where nothing seems to be happening. For example, ...

A Tunnel to Suicide: A Call to Those Standing at the Threshold

Image
Introduction             The title is indicative of what I intend on discussing. I should predicate this with the thought that I am not claiming that this is the only reason nor the only fix for the issue. This discourse is rather based on my personal perception/ experience of a potential cause for suicide. This is really being written in the hope's that someone who is having these thoughts will read this and find a possible fix or at least an aid in their travails. Also, I should say to those who are close to me, this is not some call for help but rather me looking to help based on feelings that I have had. With these predicate statements out of the way let me begin. (Picture Courtesy of https://descendam.wordpress.com/category/philosophie/depression-in-der-leistungsgesellschaft/) The Tunnel             Typically, when these events take place most people a...

The World of Diversion, Dissonance, and Disdain

Today, I write with the full awareness and expectation that not many will take in these words but with a burning heart that aches at the anguish in the world I must write. There is a common thread that I can see that we have allowed to brew in our thinking for many years now and I will present them in a threefold manner. But first let me say that this is being written coming directly on the heels of the Florida school shooting, locally we have had school suicides, and yet another child has shot themselves this morning. This material of its own is confounding but what is more are the comments that follow events like these. The blatant disregard by those who furiously type as though their self-absorbed and cold opinions matter is utterly confusing. The lack of respect by those typing these comments is just puzzling on a grand scale because the comments are neither informative, helpful, further the cause, or add to the discussion. So what was the point of leaving the c...
